        where goob's brain comes from

Goob runs on the FlyWire connectome, the full wiring of one adult fruit fly, simulated as about 139,000 leaky integrate-and-fire neurons with the model from Shiu et al., Nature 2024. Eating, refusing bitter food, escaping shadows and grooming all come from those simulations.

        goob's mind

Goob's reflexes come from the fly brain. Its words, its reading and its conversations come from Claude when you open Goob here, or from a small server if whoever hosts Goob sets one up; otherwise it answers with simple built-in replies. Its diary, drawings, songs, savings and chats are kept in your browser, so Goob remembers you on this device.

        a neighbor of pino

Goob is inspired by Pino, the autonomous kiwi bird who lives in a small town on the internet, draws every day and saves up for a train ticket.
